Heene Primary School discuss Bob's artAnd they have some interesting things to sayOn the 2nd of June 2009 at Heene Primary School in Worthing, two classes of third year pupils sat down with their teachers to have a philosophical debate on the art of Bob Brighton. Teacher Dianne Bonthrone regularly engages the children in thinking and speaking exercises with the aim of developing skills that will be useful in later life. Bob had recently donated some works to the school and his paintings provide an ideal subject for starting a conversation of metaphysical basis. Bob's work has little subject matter apart from colour and form, therefore the children really had to get their imaginations pumping. "What do the paintings mean?" and "Why did he just paint squares instead of a picture?" are the kind of questions raised during the session. If you are interested in the answers, you can download a copy of Tom Bradford's account of the proceedings in PDF format by selecting the link below. A selection of the paintings that were donated to the school can be seen in the gallery.
