Welcome! to the art of Bob Brighton
British artist Bob Brighton has devoted his life to being an artist and painter. His language is colour. His vocabulary a pure palette of over 90 hues. The artist's work has been described by one critic as 'brilliant abstractions that utilise colour in the most lyrical way'.
Brighton's paintings are typically unstretched pieces of raw hessian, cotton and flax - sandwiched together, soaked in colour and pinned directly to the gallery wall. The major works are large and dramatic.
Bob's skill with colour and texture is literally priceless. Since becoming a professional artist in 1983 he has given most of his work away and lived a frugal existence on the dole. The resulting works have been highly original - the product of uncompromised creativity. As a result, he now has permanent collections on show in the UK, Australia, Denmark and Finland. In line with his philosophy, all the pieces on public display have been donated freely.
In his home town of Worthing, England, Bob’s off-beat lifestyle has endeared him to many locals and he is regarded as one of the town’s few truly colourful characters. Today, in his late 60s he still paints prolifically from a small flat near Worthing town centre.
His health has deteriorated a little in recent years, but according to Bob, he still feels like the young, enthusiastic and inspired painter that he has been most of his life.
